Smart Way for Free Lancers to Market Themselves!

thumbnail-1.aspx

Today I made it a goal of mine to find a qualified intelligent and creative copywriter for a project that I am apart of. Normally the way I find a free lancer is through my network of contacts. I’ll usually make a post on Linkedin and Facebook as well as Tweet that I am looking for a qualified copywriter. I didn’t find anybody this way and got over 100 messages from the highly qualified applicants of craigslist that just clogged up my inbox and made me puke. I didn’t know what to do!

So I got back to my computer from the bathroom and opened up my email and boom thanks to the superb targeting of Google AdSense there is an ad from Feldman Creative. Without giving away his exact ad, I just want to say that it was straight to the point and had an amazing call to action. I clicked on his site and shot him an email all in one motion and that was the end of the story. It seems simple enough right?

The point of the matter is I know this guy can write compelling ads on Google and he has proven that he knows how to write compelling ad copy to market himself, this is the exact skill set that I am looking to hire for and I know he is qualified without even seeing his resume. My next question is why don’t more free lancers or even just regular people who happen to be job hunting market themselves through both Google PPC and Facebook PPC? If you are a free lancer in my opinion you will gain instant credibility with the person who is looking to hire you by marketing yourself through by means of Pay Per Click. How many free lancers do you see marketing them through PPC? Very little, they are all competing on eLance, Craigslist, and all the other freelance places to get your business. By marketing yourself through means of hyper targeted paid search you are cutting out one of the main steps of hiring process which is the part where you get people to read your resume and find out if your are qualified.

Point of the matter is in this society which is driven by competition if you work tirelessly to be different and have an open mind toward trying new things you will not be unemployed long and for the most part you will always have a lot of work on your plate.

Brilliant idea – figure out where your competition isn’t and dominate that area…. Heck there are so many companies giving away $50+ credits for PPC ads through Adwords / Facebook it seems like common since after thinking about it.

Guess that some smaller niche minded keyword research is getting added to my task list, thank you Steve.
